Offline Course or Online Course, What Do You Prefer?

All over the world, there are various types of universities exist. Not only off line

universities but also on line universities have their own boundaries. Especially online type

classes take place more place than before. That is because most of students have devices like

laptop computers, tablet PCs, and smart phones. Do same as increasing of devices, the

lectures which use electronic equipment increases. Also students may have the desire to take

classes more comfortabley at anytime, anywhere they can access the internet. In another way,

over the last decade or so, tuition fees have gone through the roof. This is a big problem

because it has become very expensive for young Koreans get a university education. So, one

way to resolve this problem would be an online class. This might make attending university

less of a financial burden for many students.

But, the online courses cannot catch up the off line courses. If we attend on off line

courses, the instructors help each student develop a good writing style by a number of

different assignments each week. Also instructors give us a lot of interesting back ground

information about the works, even whole lives. Lots of project those we had to research real

life things, give us a sense of what we have to do and offer career choice. Also, off line

courses don’t make doze off like some of other online lectures do. We have many group

discussions, and instructors always ask us to think critically about what we have studied.

Because of these, we have learned to develop our own opinion. We carefully consider

everything we read and hear, and use our own judgment to determine its value. At least, just

going to school and meeting friends can create a good atmosphere for studying.

Walking around campus, climbing way up on top of a hill, and chatting with each

other face to face, etc are also important aspects of off line courses. And most of students

are familiar with offline courses from kinder gardens or elementary schools. If payment for

education is a problem, the universities offer more scholarships and grants. This would make

less of a financial burden for many students.

Writing about Painting
There is one picture that sticks out for my mind. When I traveled Wein, Austria, I went to Belvedere palace. Walking through the palace one picture caught my eyes. It is a picture titled <Reading Girl>, by Franz Eybl.
It was quite hard to find out the background story of this art work. The time, when this picture was creating by Franz Eybl, it went kind of going through spring of permission that women could read books. Freedom of women’s reading took over the centuries. Men of power and conservatives beg the question that women’s reading was mental illness. But reading spread out greatly fast between women and then women enlightened because of the books. The painter, Franz Eybl, was a famous portrait painter at Wein high society. Based on this fact, the painter might feel charm from ‘Reading Girl’ or main love interest of him.
The title of the picture is Reading “Girl”, she seems to be in late teens or early twenties. Regarding her appearance, she’s got brown eyes and shining black hair. She wears white blouse. Also her skin is fascinating white. What sets this picture apart from the others is that the color of her hair and skin makes perfect eye catching contrast. Whenever I see this paint, I can get exact feature of reading girl. Her face is not only deeply profound but also innocent. Stefan Bollmann, German author, said about this paint “Like her elegant figure her thought also doesn’t have malice” <Women Who Read Are Dangerous>, 2005.
I found this paint is pretty charming. What I like the most about this art work is face angle of the main character. Without a doubt this angle must contain her most beautiful face. A work of art exposes me to new ideas of reading. It always cheer me up when I have a heap of work to do such as the examination of a thesis for graduation, school work, writing cover letter, etc. The only downside of this picture is that there’s no exact story about picture. But overall, I love this picture. I always feel great when I see it. The first time when I found this picture at Austria is such a mind blowing experience. This is a memory which I treasure. I was mesmerized when I saw it. For now, this picture is enough to quench my thirst for relaxing my mind and though provoking. I hope this picture be more famous.

Even though appreciating paintings don’t provide a great mount of philological studies. I personally think that they are indispensible for my wellbeing life. The reason is they help are worthy opportunity of thinking about people at the past, and also good motivation that I can look back my livelihood.

Unit 9 : Should there be one world language that everyone speaks?

When we travel abroad that has a language we have never learned about, how can we communicate in that country?
When we meet foriegners how can we speak each other?
All of us know the awnser. We can use English and we can understand what they want to say or we can tell them what we want to say. The representative language can make us communicate if we had totally different languages. But this doesn't mean that there should be one world lanuguage.

The language is not only a language but also a window of its own culture. It contains a native culture and other languge cannot show that. The extinction of languge means also the extionction of the culture. It is not an overstatement.
All over the world, there are uncountable races, tribals, societies, etc. Then how can we unite the lanuage? Is it possible? Is there any government which has forciblness?
In conclusion there is no realistic.

For preservation of humanity values, we have to respect  the variety languages. The official language is what we need. Not "an languge."

Unit 8 : Stem cell

Have you ever heard about stemcell?
You may heard alot about this in cosmetics. But I am going to talk about medical part.
In 2004, Korean doctor Wooseok-Hwang cloned somatic cells by using human egg as a first in the world. And from these , he also made embryonic stem cells. This was issued by 《Science》.
His success came into its own as opening road of treatment incurable disease. By the other side this provoked ehics matter like human cloning.

Different from other transplant technologies , stem cell is easy to extract. It can be get from skin ans then divided into liver, kidney or muscle. Embryonic stemcell can be extracted by transplanting somatic cell.
In placenta, cut after childbirth, also stem cell exists in it. When children get disease, children can be cured by this stemcell. Because of this, stem cell bank and placental blood storage industry appears in Korea.

Also stem cell has stability to use. There is no immune rejection response. Because it is from its own body. Nowadays cartilage stemcell is used to cure degenerative arthritics. And bone narrow stem cell is generally used to cure lukemia.
Adults' bodies also have dividable cell. From this we can avoid moral problems partially. This treatment is way to substitute damaged organs. Even it had unlimited possiblities theoretically.

Besides, above strength of stemcell, few things we have to check before use it. There are not only technological problems but also needs of verification about effect and safety.
It is overall in first step.
But the growth of technology is so fast that it will be soon ready to use.

Unit 7 : Ensuring a Sustainable Future

I think it goes without saying that global warming is having an effect everywhere. Neither is Korea immune from this phenomenon. There are many differences between the country's weather in the past and that of today.

For the planet, everyone has to do their part especially "recycle".
The first thing we do is separate the different types of recyclable items. For example, plastic bottles, metal cans, and news papers all go in different bags. It is necessary because of the environmental benefits.

When it comes to recycling, I think Korea's system is very effective. Regular garbage is only picked up if it is not in special bags, which I must purchase from the store. This costs money, but most recyclable materials  are picked up free of charge. These steps are easy to follow. And also easy way to preserve unusual weather from global warming.

It is something everyone should take seriously in order to keep the planet healthy for future generations.
Even with modern technology, we are still at the mercy of nature.

Unit 6[ Place in Movies : Gladiator]

The story could not happen in other city or time. Rome is a very important element of the movie, Gladiator. That is, unique culture of ancient Rome makes structure in story.
Most of the important events in this movie start from the Roman Emperor’s action. He destroy the protagonist’s everything contains family, house, home town, etc. Why did the Roman Emperor destory the protagonist’s everything?
The Roman Emperor had an ambition of conquest. Even people suffered from famine. The Emperor didn't give up the ambition of forceful occupation and then approval rating of The Emperor went bad. At that time, protagonist, Gladiator, won every battle in wars. Protagonist got more support and fame than Emperor. Gladiator became hero all over the nation. Emperor started to jealous him. What was worse Emperor wanted to get Gladiator’s wife but failed because of her constancy. Eventually,  Emperor killed Gladiator’s wife and son, destroyed everything of him.

Another main point in this movie is revenge of Gladiator’s wife. How can Gladiator’s wife counteract through the Emperor’s action?
The time and region background of this movie ‘Ancient Rome’ can explain about this. Ancient Rome had unique culture of fightings in public stardium. Although main character killed the Roman Emperor in the stadium while fighting. And it was legal.
‘Gladiator’ could not be set in except for ancient Rome. Rome in this movie means not only place but also structure of story.
What do you think which os the representative culture in this time and area?

Eco-tourism : Writing short Cause-effect Essay

▲In Korea, here's also Eco-tourism exists

People usually enjoy trying the local cuisine and seeing famous sights when they are on a travel. If we had to choose a sort of travel , we should choose Eco-tourism.
Going Eco-tourism is really nice because it must be helpful for both tourists and local people. To many people, it is the purpose of eco-tourism that makes travel so attractive. Eco-tour is the perfect way to enjoy with charity.

If tourism is badly informed, it can make bad effects on region. So kind of local government has to provide guide lines of eco-tour. These guides will usually include getting around and communicating with the local people. It's also pretty normal for them to provide recommendations regarding local restaurants and accommodates.

I think that Eco-tour is wonderful because it helps people make the most of their vacations with environment friendly. I guess the only way to really know if I'm going to like something on my trip in try it for myself.

Short talk about movies: just my opinoin

I like watching all kinds if movies, including romances, comedies, and thrillers. However, the type of film I enjoy most is science fiction.
The thing about these films that attracts me is that they are so imaginative. They focus on ideas that are really out there, such as aliens and time travel. Watching a good sci-fi movie, you can't help but marvel at the creativity of the filmmakers. You really have to think out side the box to come up with such outlandish and thought-provoking characters and settings. Also, sci-fi movies often feature advanced special effects, so they are a treat to watch on the big screen.
Sci-fi films are a great way to unwind. they allow me to escape from my stress for a couple of hours. I especially enjoy watching them when I've had a difficult week and I am down in the dumps. Sci-fi films are entertaining, so they always cheer me up.

Ki hong Leea featured actor of Maze Runner

I am a film buff, so there are a lot of actors that I admire. But I would have to way that my overall favorite is Ki Hong Lee. Ki Hong Lee has dark brown eyes, black hair  , and a dazzling smile. He is already married , but this doesn't really matter when I like him. He is in late 20s, (He is 29!) but he looks much younger. In fact he could easily be mistaken for a man in his 10s. As for his personality, he is very energetic. when you see him in an interview, you get impression that he is full of life. He has starred in a number of movies, ranging thriller movies such as The Stanford Prison Experiment to romances like Everything Before Us.
What I like the most about him is his talent as an actor. The characters he plays always seem
believable and authentic. I think this is the hallmark of a great actor.

I used to watch tons of comedies when I was a kid. I loved them because they were fun and
pretty easy to understand. However, In recent years, I've taken to watching more serious
movies. When I went away to university, I became interested in thrillers. These types of
films appeal to me because they  usually feature realistic situation, as opposed to the
implausible scenarios in the comedic movies I used to  watch. I also find them interesting
because they tend to deal with serious themes, such as clones and discrimination.
Unlike comedies, which have the primary goal of  entertaining you, thrillers go to great lengths
to make the audience think about social and political issues. After watching them, I feel great
because now I know more about the world around me.I catch the odd comedy movie these
days, but I mostly watch thrillers. Comedies are great because they make me laugh and
forget my worries. But thrillers are better because they are though provoking.
▲stop the illegal downloads campaign in Korea

A major issue confronting the movie industry today is film piracy, or the illegal downloading and streaming of movies. A large number of people pirate movies rather than watch them in a theater or buy DVDs. The overall effect of film effect of film piracy on the movie industry is lost revenues for everyone involved in making and selling films.
When a fewer people go to theaters or buy DVDs,  the film industry earns less. As a result producers are forced to cut costs for subsequent films. This can mean making low budget movies. The quality of film making suffers, and theaters have no choice but to show poorly made movies. This further reduces box office earnings. Some movie producers take individual illegal downloaders to court , but this won't make the problem go away. I think one solution to the problem is to shut down illicit websites and punish the owners with fines. Another solution is to make websites pay fees to movie producers for providing streamed or downloadable movies.

Social relationships - Gender in the Wild : Three Studies Reveal New Findings

Studies in three African nation parks reveal how gender impact family relationships in the wild.

1. Gender Effect in Elephant Societies

^<elephant societies>

The strong bonds between females continue throughout their lives. Also, males often form intense, long lasting associations with other males.
Members in the male group follow a strict social hierarchy in which each member knows his rank or status.
These strong bonds and rigid lines of authority are helpful during periods of drought when food and water are scarce.

2. Gelada Female primates with power

^<Gelada reproductive unit>

Female Geladas are smaller and less distinctive looking but they have real power in family groups.
Gelada males have little say in what the family does from day to day. Instead females have the decision making power.
No family male lasts more than four years and many are replaced before three. However replaced males do not leave thier families.

3. Gender Driven play in Chimps

^<Family of chimps>

Monkeys in captivity have demonstrated gender driven toy references. Male and female animals in wild also play in contrasting ways.
Female chimps playes with sticks mimicked caretaking behaviors. The chimps appeared to be using the sticks as dolls.
Males did not normally play with objects. They preferred active play-climbing, jumping , and chasing each other through trees.
